10 Home Remedies for Furniture Maintenance

Ever thought a Walnut or toothpaste would help you in your everyday cleaning chores? Here we present to you 10 cheap and easy home remedies to make your life a little bit easier. Just make sure that when you try these out, you test it on a small hidden surface of your furniture - it's better to be safe. Removing water stains from wooden furniture is fairly straight forward. Simply mix 1/2 cup of olive oil, 1/2 cup of vinegar, and 2 cups of warm water. Apply onto the panel you would like to clean with a soft smooth cloth. Finish of by drying it with a clean cloth.  
For this one you will need to act fairly fast. As soon as you spill the wine, grab a salt shaker and cover the stain in salt - allowing it to settle for a while (5 mins). Wash as usual and hopefully the stain would have disappeared. White wine also works.  
Had enough of expensive branded cleaning products? Make your own polish for your furniture by mixing 4 tablespoons of lemon juice, 3 tablespoons of water and 2 teaspoons of olive oil. Simple!  
Blood is a tricky stain to remove however Hydrogen Peroxide should do the job. Pour a little onto the stain and leave it for a few minutes. Rinse with some water and repeat until the stain has completely disappeared. Try it on a hidden part of the material first just to make sure you won't be ruining the fabric.  
Believe it or not, hairspray is great at removing pen in from furniture. Spray a generous amount onto the stain and let it dry. You can then sponge the area using warm soapy water.  
Scratches on wooden furniture can disappear thanks to… a WALNUT. Believe it or not, if you rub the nut in a circular motion around the scratch. Then grab some polish and apply with a soft cloth - you woun’t even notice it was ever marked.  
If ever your kids have taken to the walls with a pencil, you can remove it with a slice of fresh rye bread. Simply rub the bread against the mark and it will erase the pencil as if it were magic.  
To make sure that germs don't hang around in your sink, you can be sure to kill them all if you spray it with full-strength rubbing alcohol. Finish off by drying it with paper towel.  
Stainless steel is one of the most difficult things to keep clean but this trick might help you. Apply a generous amount of surgical spirit to the metal using a soft cloth... this should keep it sparkling.  
Thought tootpaste was only good for cleaning your teeth? Think again. Toothpaste is also a great metal polish and it can be used to clean and make chrome shine.
